Driftwise · Environmental Monitoring Platform

Turn field observations into evidence you can trace

Driftwise is the system of record that agencies and conservation organizations run their habitat and waterway monitoring programs on. Field crews log what they see; Driftwise keeps it organized, reviewed, and ready to report.

The operating flywheel

How Driftwise is meant to operate.

One shared record of your program sits at the center — waters and habitat alike. Every observation, decision, and report feeds it, and it compounds with every turn. Other tools map the problem; Driftwise runs the loop.

Two minutes, end to end: start the map from a watershed or the lines people govern by, bring in the data you already have, write the plan once, send the form to everyone — and let the engines tell you what crossed the line.

Questions we get

Straight answers before you book a call.

The things agencies and field biologists usually ask first.

What is Driftwise?

Driftwise is environmental monitoring software. It records field observations and turns them into a reviewed, traceable monitoring record for two kinds of program: habitat restoration and invasive species response, and waterway conditions.

Does Driftwise work for waterway hazard and conditions monitoring?

Yes — it is built for exactly that. Driftwise is the system of record agencies and conservation organizations use to capture waterway hazards and conditions in the field and act on them. Crews log hazards offline, and Driftwise watches them alongside live and modeled readings from more than a dozen federal sources, so every river reach carries one clear state — Critical, Warning, Watch or All clear — and the readings that put it there, with a public conditions map and one-click PDF for agencies and funders.

How does Driftwise match recaptured fish?

Driftwise uses PIT tag and mark-recapture matching to link a capture to a known individual. A reviewer confirms each match in a QA queue before it enters the population record, so individuals are not double-counted.

How does Driftwise score environmental risk?

For every river reach, Driftwise pulls live and modeled readings from more than a dozen federal data sources and watches each one against its own healthy range, set from scientific thresholds. A reading that leaves its range crosses an edge, and the reach takes the state of the worst edge crossed — Critical, Warning or Watch — never an average, so one lethal reading is never diluted by a dozen benign ones. The state arrives with the readings that caused it. Corridors roll up the reaches they pass through, with a 90-day trend and one-click PDF export. Environmental Risk is one of four intelligence engines — alongside Water Quantity & Flow, Fisheries Risk, and Terrestrial Habitat Restoration — and every engine reports Partial data or Not evaluated where it could not see enough, instead of quietly passing a reach as clear.

Which data sources does Driftwise use?

Live and modeled readings from federal sources including USGS stream gauges, NOAA's National Water Model and flood forecasts, EPA water-quality and watershed data, FEMA flood zones, U.S. Fish & Wildlife and NOAA Fisheries critical habitat, NIFC wildfire, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam data.

Does Driftwise integrate with ArcGIS?

Yes. A built-in connector imports ArcGIS feature layers and hosted tables directly. File imports accept CSV, GeoJSON, KML, GPX, and Shapefile, with automatic field mapping for exports from ArcGIS Survey123, EDDMapS, and iMapInvasives.

What reports can Driftwise produce?

A Hazard Pulse timeline of closures and advisories with time-to-resolution, treatment work reports that roll up crew hours and costs, and a full audit log of every change. Corridor and reach reports export to a branded PDF — led by the reach or corridor's state and the readings behind it; treatment work reports, audit logs, and research rounds export to CSV.

Does Driftwise work offline in the field?

Yes. The mobile companion captures photos, GPS, species, and measurements without a signal and syncs automatically when reception returns.

Can multiple partner organizations share one map?

Yes. Invasive species and restoration programs work off one shared map of every infestation, treatment, and re-survey, with privacy and partner controls so each organization sees what it should. Organizations can also form partnerships to share specific maps with each other, with opt-in controls and anonymized attribution.

Can Driftwise schedule field crews and treatments?

Yes. Crews and members are scheduled from the platform, and each member gets a my-schedule view. Treatment methods carry weather rules — wind, temperature, and precipitation caps that gate the schedule — and every treatment record logs chemicals with EPA registration numbers, volumes, and concentrations, plus labor, materials, equipment, and contractor costs.

Can Driftwise run structured research studies?

Yes. The research module runs structured field studies: custom forms, collection rounds, and participant cohorts who join through a public link with no account setup by staff. Each round's submissions export to CSV or PDF.

What does Driftwise cost?

Pricing is still in development. Programs typically start with a single pilot season and expand from there. Contact us to scope a pilot.

Tell us about your program — a watershed, an infestation, a trail system. We'll walk through how a field record becomes the report your agency and funders sign off on.

The call

A working call, not a pitch

We spend the time on your actual program — the data you have now and the report you owe.

Onboarding

Guided onboarding

We import your existing records and configure the setup alongside your team. Role-based in-product tours carry the rest of the crew after the call.
